What is Respite? Respite is temporary relief for families caring for a loved one (adult or child) with a disability.
How does it work? Caregivers choose their own staff—someone they already know and trust! The person can be a relative (as long as not a primary caregiver), a teacher’s aide, a neighbor, or babysitter.
Gateway completes background checks, pre-employment drug testing and hires eligible individuals.
After Respite Staff completes required training, including CPR & First Aid, they can then work independently with the caregivers to schedule respite when needed.
How is it Funded? Currently, respite services are funded through individual Medicaid Waivers and some state monies.
How do I get started? For more information about Respite through Gateway Services, email Jennifer Moss ([email protected]) or call (317) 738-5500 ext. 229.
