HOLIDAY CLOSINGS

12/18/2019

We just wanted to be sure everyone knows that Gateway Services, Inc and Access Johnson County Public Transit are closed.  Our very tired but dedicated staff need a little rest after working so hard this last year.  We had a lot going on in 2019.
Eagle Scout Project, Pet Pawlooza, Lemon Shake Up Stand not to mention all the grant applications we submitted over the course of this last year.
We also have had several annual or triennial compliance reviews this year.  There was CARF (we got a 3 year that was the maximum) Transportation was surveyed by INDOT and IndyGo regarding operations and vehicle operations. For the first time every we are self reporters for National Transit Database.  We had our annual Agency Audit that started a bit earlier than usual.
These last three months we have had several other fundraisers such as the birth announcements of our triplet medium transit vehicles were delivered, we did an end of year support letter as well.

We wish you are a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

One of our favorite events that we host is our annual fashion show. It's such a great time to celebrate, Fall, fashion, and the people we serve. For just $40, your ticket will not only get you access to the show, but you'll also have a tremendous lunch and be able to bid on our silent and live auction items. That's right. We said live auction. It's something different. And we think you're going to love it!

There's a couple of other things we're doing differently this year. It's all part of making this year's event bigger and better than ever before!
  • In case you missed the announcement a few months ago, children have joined our team of models this year! You can get to know them and the other fabulous models by following our Fashion Show Facebook page.
  • Tickets will not be sold at the door this year! We know this is something we've done in the past, but tickets will not be available at the door. So go ahead and get your tickets now before you run out of time! You can reserve your ticket by calling (317) 738-5500. Tickets are also available online. Click here to buy yours today.
  • Speaking of the live auction...

Rafael Sanchez, investigative reporter and news anchor at RTV6, has agreed to have brunch with the person who has the highest bid in a live auction during the event.

The winner will be treated to a meal at Don and Dona's in Franklin, Indiana. It promises to be a time you won't soon forget!

  • We think we've raised the bar with our silent auction items this year. Some new additions this year include: a night's stay at the Story Inn in Nashville, Indiana, tickets to the Holy Land Experience in Orlando, Florida, and tickets to the African Safari Wildlife Park in Port Clinton, Ohio.
This really is an experience unlike any other. You'll laugh. You might cry. You'll leave with a full belly and an overflowing heart. We'll see you October 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We hope it'll be the highlight of your Fall.

Because we know it'll be the highlight of ours.

New Vehicles

We are happy to announce we have 3 new small transits on the road.  We were able to procure these from a vehicle grant that is offered through  Federal Transit Administration and Indiana Department of Transportation.  We are blessed to only have to pay a 20% local match.

The delivery of the new vehicles will help us dispose of some of the vehicles that are out of their useful life.  Useful live is 4 years or 100,000 miles.  However we are retiring 2 - 2007 Ford Large Transits and 3 - 2010 Ford Transits  they all have over 100,000 and one have more than 281,000 miles on them.  We try to be sure we get every ounce of useful life out of each vehicle we get.  It will also help with our vehicle maintenance budget, we will of course keep during preventative maintenance but it will save us $$ on some of the costly repairs these older vehicles in order to operate a safe and efficient transportation service.

We are expecting 3 more small transits by the end of September.

Thank you to Johnson County Commissioners, Council, City of Greenwood, City of Franklin, Town of Whiteland, Trafalgar and Edinburgh.  Also a big thank you for United Way of Johnson County and Community Founda tion  and all the other Community Partners for helping us keep the wheels on the bus going round and round.

Lemon Squeeze and Shake Ups

7/19/2018

We had lots of help at our Lemon Squeeze last Thursday, July 12.  We squeezed 76 cases for a total of 145 gallons of lemon juice.  We had over 50 volunteers from 7:00 - 2:45.  The first case was washed and cut by 7:14 am and the first lemon was squeezed at 7:15 by our very own Jennifer M.  The last lemon was squeezed at 1:15 pm.  We had approximately 10 people stay and help clean up the sticky and lemony smelling basement at First Christian Church in Bargersville.  We would like to thank you all that helped in anyway in making this event a complete success.

Saturday, July 14 drivers loaded the lemon stand on two trucks, two trailers and a mini van with all the supplies to get us started.  These fine drivers had the stand all set up by 10:30.  That is a record.  I think we are a well oiled machine at this point.  Thank you to all the staff that helped load the vehicles and to Gerald, Ron, Joe, Rob, Roger, Mike O, and Bill H for setting it all up at the Fair Grounds.

We are half way through the fair now.  We have a few fun facts to share.
Fun Fact:   Wednesday July 18 was the 2nd best day we have had in 10 years at the Johnson County Fair.   Last year on Sunday was the 1st best day at the fair in 9 years.

Fun Fact:  Very unusual Summer Day in Indiana -The weather was a perfect day with no rain only sunshine and hardly any humidity.

Fun Fact:   A BIG SHOUT OUT to the Daily Journal we would never have been able to get the word out if it hadn't been for you folks.  We have had some awesome volunteers that have stepped up answered  the call for action.

Fun Fact:  A1 Bail Bonds and PFM Car & Truck Care were our Stand and Cup Sponsors this year and Gateway's new logo were on these cups as well.   THANK YOU Melia (A1 Bail Bonds) and John (PFM) !

Lemon Louie Needs You!

6/30/2018

Well it is Fair time again.  You do know what that means? That is right it is Lemon Shake Up time for Gateway Services, Inc.  For those of you who are new to Gateway let me fill you in on a few things.
1.  Gateway has done the Lemon Shake Up Stand at the Johnson County Fair since 1972 which makes this our 46th year.
2.  We squeeze 80 cases of lemons, that's over 13,000 lemons for you novices in only one day.  Usually takes us less than 8 hours from start to finish including clean up.

.  We use over 850 pounds of sugar and over 280 bags of ice last year in order to make the BEST Lemon Shake Ups on the Johnson County Fair Grounds.
 4.  We need over 200 volunteers to make this fundraiser a success.
With that being said we need volunteers on Thursday, July 12 starting at 7:30 until finished.  We do not expect anyone to stay the whole time but any time you can would be much appreciated.

We also have 7 shifts available the week of the Fair July 15-21.  If you have a group of 8-10 people that you would like to have fun while giving back to a local not for profit then please contact Becky Allen at [email protected].  All ages are welcome!

We are truly excited in seeing you all out at the Johnson County Fair.
